Ice Cream Sundae Par-tay

School is officially out.  I don't really have time to process that.  Or to worry about what the heck we are going to do for THREE months.  The kids hit it hard the last day of school.  They each had friends over and they enjoyed the waterslide and our annual ice cream sundaes.  It was a good time.  I felt a little tired when it was all said and done.  Got me thinking that we need some sort of schedule and routine or I may just go insane.

We have lots planned, and I'm pretty sure we will work ourselves into a routine that we can all live with.

Today I Was Reminded

that there are some angry, ugly, vulgar people in this world.  I was at the grocery store picking up a few essentials.  Brandon was with me.  I was busy multitasking: putting groceries on the conveyor belt, stopping him from grabbing the candy in his sight, calling him to come back to the cart.  You know, the usual.  Not really aware of anything but what I was doing.  We pulled the basket up to the bagger.  Brandon was helping me, I looked up to see a man standing near the end of our aisle.  He hadn't been in line before us.  I smiled at him while talking to Brandon about stopping the cart.  He looked at me with the meanest face and YELLED at me to stop my *&*&(+#! cart! I was stunned, shocked, not sure how to react.  Brandon came around near me, then he started in on my punk kid with more choice adjectives.  I apologized for anything my son may have done (which was nothing because we had never seen that man prior) at which point I thought he was going to haul off and punch me. He kinda did one of those "you messin with me head nod, fist back" movements. Apparently I wasn't supposed to talk to him, but allow him to speak to me in a very innappropriate manner.  Thank goodness for the cart separating us. He yelled more choice words. I turned to finish my transaction ignorning his rudeness, I didn't want to engage him and he thankfully left. 

I was pretty shaken by the whole situation.  I HATE confrontation.  I felt sorry for him.  That he must be such an angry  person to act so ugly.  I was mad that he had offended me and assalted me with his language.  I really hoped that Brandon wouldn't be upset about it or catch on to words he's never heard.  Once in the car I explained that he was a mean man that used really bad words and was not nice and that we don't treat people like that.  It didn't seem to phase him.  I'm so glad for that. 

So I teased today that I risked my life going to the grocery store to buy everyone some bread :)

I went back to the home and atmosphere that I've created. My little bubble, a place with my favorite people. A barrier from the outside world and wished that my kids didn't have to grow up. That they didn't have to encounter people like that, and at the same time knowing that they have to in order to grow and distinguish between what's good and what's bad.  Then they get to decide how they choose to live their lives.    I can't always be there to protect them.

Swimming

I love this picture of my 4 favorite boys. 

They had such a great time swimming on Monday.  I admit, I didn't think that they would want to swim considering the cooler temperatures.  I am not complaining, it just seems like it should be hotter by now.  Steve is always the good sport getting in and playing with them.

I sat on the side and was the offical ball retriever.

Lauren didn't have a swimsuit and wouldn't just swim in her shorts already.  The boys were bugged by that.  They took matters into their own hands and pulled her right in after dinner.  Thankfully the cell phone was not in her pocket :) I think she was glad to be in there with them.

Kade remembered all his moves from last summer.  It's always funny to me how cautious he is and then he realizes after an hour or so that he does in fact remember how to swim.

Brandon is going to be getting some tough love swimming lessons soon at Las Vegas Swim Academy.  I hate to do it, but it must be done :) He really hates having water in his face. To the point that he told me he probably doesn't want to get baptized when he's 8 because he has to go under the water.  Anyways, he surprised me, put on the floaties and went for it.  He never will wear the floaties and prefers to play happily in the hot tub.  I hope this is the summer Brandon learns to swim.

I wish we could have a pool, maybe someday.  I'm just grateful we can use the in laws pool every once in awhile.
