Morning Conversations

As the kids leave this morning, I'm left with memories of the brief conversations and interactions we had and breakfast dishes still on the table. 

Kade: You know cops have to get shot.

Brandon: What?!  Cops have to get SHOTS!  I don't want any shots.  I hate shots.

Brandon: Dad, do cops have to get shots? 

Dad: Well everyone has to get shots.  Kade means policemen have guns, bad guys have guns and sometimes they get shot at with guns.

Brandon: Oh,  whew! as he runs his had across his forehead. Apparently getting shot at with a real gun is tons better than getting a shot at the doctor's office.

 

Kyle: Ahh, my throat hurts.  I don't want to go to school.

Me: You're going to school we already talked about this last night.  Get a drink and take some medicine.

Kyle:  More moaning and complaints, thinking I may just give in and let him stay home today.

Me: Hurry, you're making us late.

Kyle:  Will you at least send in a note to my PE teacher so I don't have to run?

 

Lauren: Can I ask you something without you getting mad at me?

Me: Yes...(Knowing full well it's about the phone she wants for Christmas that Steve just talked with her about not getting.)

Lauren: Why can't I have a smart phone?  All the 7th graders have them!

Me: Long lecture about gratitude and thinking about others instead of comparing ourselves to them and their things.  Am I the only one that has issues with spending money each month for my daughter to be connected to the internet and have more places to waste time? 

 

As I head out to drop the kids off to school.

Steve: Don't scare anyone.

I never have time to get myself ready before dropping the kids to school.  I"m perfectly fine with "scaring people"  This is real life.

 

And one more from last night because it's just too funny to forget.

Brandon has this fascination with marrying me.  I'm his favorite in the whole world:)

We were discussing our plans for Saturday.  Brandon is listening and then says.  Oh yeah, me and mom are getting married on Saturday.

Rolls of laughter.

Dad asks if he can be the best man.  Nope, you're the chef.  Lauren is the server.  Kade is the best man and Kyle is the guy who talks and gives the rings.

Someday we'll need to remind Brandon that he wanted to marry me.  I think it's sweet and hope he he still loves me just as much when he grows up and finds an awesome girl to marry.
